Ig and OOG: Don’t Use My Character To Get in My Pants.

naida-al:

This post’ll probably really only make sense to people in roleplay communities.

I’ve had a couple incidences now where people will try and court my character in some way, sometimes in ways that are completely out of character, only for me to find out it was because they had a crush. This so far, seems to have happened for a couple of reasons.

A) I already had a girlfriend OOG. Easy fix to that is to date that hot chick IG. That makes it cool beans and I can have my cake and eat it too.

B) It’s a good way to test the waters before opening yourself up to someone. If they reject you IG, you know, whatever, that was just your character. But, if she’s into it….

And C) I’m a lot cooler IG than I am OOG. Here I can protect her, keep the fragile little maiden safe from harm in my strong arms. Out there the bullies take my lunch money.

People! These are not valid ways of getting a love interests attention! It’s disrespectful! I for one, don’t go larping so that people can try and sneak/safe mode their way into my pants. I go there to be my character, and I’m fine if your character macs on her. Just make sure your character is macing on HER. Not ME.

If you want to ask me out, ask ME out. Hell, if you’re just looking for sex, ASK. I may/probably will say no, but I’ll say no and still respect and probably like you. And I’ll be a hell of a lot less agitated.

This. And extending this to treating someone differently for OOG reasons. My ex was super friendly and protective of my character while we were going out. Our characters were good friends in game. And then when we broke up his character completely ignored my character and then began to make her life miserable.
It’s a hard distinction to make sometimes between OOG and IG, but it’s important for everyone’s sanity. Ain’t no drama like larp drama.
